HISTORY & TODAY
In 1986, our chairman, Ali Subaşı, resigned his post as the CEO of Adidas Turkey to create his footwear sales and marketing company.
The company had sold most of the major footwear brands of Turkey for almost 20 years.
In 2004, Subaşı’s footwear company made a strategic decision to create Darkwood, its own brand, and invest in production facilities under the company name, Akasya Ltd.
This strategy stemmed from our chairman’s belief, that producing state-of-the-art quality shoes could only be possible through management and control of the whole shoemaking process, starting from raw material purchase, all the way to sales and marketing.
From drawing the first sketches to presenting the finished product in stores, Darkwood lavishes the utmost attention to detail and quality. Darkwood’s combination of handcrafted styles, premium leather, and fine details has attracted an intensely loyal following, turning it into an international status brand.
Darkwood sells over a million pairs of shoes in a leading fashion chain stores and retailers offline and online in more than 30 countries.
The 2017 marks the 13th year of Darkwood history and we are proud that our decisive contribution over a decade has made its mark on the quality standard of the footwear industry.
